What is Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive hands-on healing technique used to treat physical ailments without using pressure, manipulation or massage.

Background

Reiki is an ancient healing system that originated in Japan. Current Reiki practice can be traced to the spiritual teachings of Dr Usui during the 20th Century.

The word “Reiki” is derived from two Japanese words: rei (universal) and ki (life energy). The concept of life force has been recognised in many cultures for thousands of years.  Similar concepts are used in Shiatsu as well as in physical and spiritual practices such as Tai Chi and Yoga.

How Reiki Helps

Reiki treats the whole person rather than specific symptoms.  Reiki is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of the person – body, mind, and spirit.

Reiki promotes the body’s own healing system and can be excellent for physical and emotional healing.  It can help many health conditions, including:

  • Stress and tension
  • Sleep disturbances / insomnia
  • Headaches
  • Back and neck pain
  • Stiff joints
  • Injuries
  • Digestive disorders
  • Sinus problems
  • Asthma

Reiki can also assist people who are experiencing a change in their lives:

  • Grief and emotional upset
  • Going through divorce
  • Recovering from surgery
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Facing/dealing with redundancy
  • Changes in direction e.g. new job

A Unique System of Healing

Reiki is a method of healing that differs from all others. Unlike many systems, it is not directed towards achieving specific ends; the healing directs itself naturally to wherever it is most needed.

How Reiki Enhances Other Therapies

Reiki is ideal for treating all ages and conditions.

It can easily be combined with other complementary therapies or used on its own.
